Sir-Tech Software was quick to capitalize on the success of its new enterainment software. Two sequels to Proving Grounds were quickly developedand released in successive years for the Apple, and then the IBM. Knight of Diamonds is the second scenario in the series, and continues the story of Llylgamyn. Not much was changed from the first scenario as spells, and game play remain identical. Many of the items from the first scenario carry over into this one, but there are a few more unique objects to be found. One change that did affect game play was the fact that users could not create new characters in Knight of Diamonds, but had to "import" their characters from Proving Grounds. The reason for this was that the monsters were much tougher in the second scenario and characters that were not at Experience Level 13 or higher would not survive the perils of this game.

Once again, a version of Knight of Diamonds was created for the NES and Famicom by ASCII. Many of the bonus features found in the NES version of the first scenario were continued for KOD, including redesigns for every floor of the dungeon. As a incidental bonus, since information can't be exchanged between NES game cartridges, in order to play KOD, you had to create new characters for your party in the NES.

Synopsis: Though the evils of Wernda have been defeated and madness of Trebor forgotten, Llylgamyn is not yet safe. The town may be protected from outside dangers by the Staff of Gnilda, but evil lies within its walls. All but two of the Royal Family are slain by Davalpus in his attempt to take over the kingdom. The two surviving members of the royal family manage to defeat Davalpus by using the famed armor of the Knight of Diamonds in conjunction with the Staff. However, in the battle, the the armor vanishes as the Temple of Gnilda (the patron Goddess of Llylgamyn) is destroyed. Gnilda takes back her Staff until a hero wearing the Knight of Diamonds armor arrives at the temple to reclaim the staff. Naturally it is your job to lead your Heroes from the Proving Grounds into the six floors of the ruined temple in an attempt to find and retrieve the pieces of the armor and reclaim the Staff of Gnilda. Evil creatures left over from the battle roam the floors and will do anything to destroy wandering adventurers. Not only that, but the armor itself has become enchanted and needs to be defeated in battle before it can be donned by one of your characters. If you can collect all five pieces of the armor, then find the resting chamber of the Staff on the lowest level, your characters will be remembered in Legend for all of histroy.
